Huffington Post

So, I came to Delhi from Kashmir in June 2015 for my college. As I was an average student with 84% in boards, I got BA program, we all know how Delhi University cut-offs are.

I always wanted to start early with my learning process, I knew only going to college won’t help me in achieving my dreams. I have always been a fashion enthusiast, my main focus was always finding a fashion internship. I was a fresher and with no experience I couldn’t find the same.

So, I planned to start with any internship that would add value to my learning process.

Here is the experience I got from all the internships I did.

Investopad (Intern)

Investopad is a platform for growth and provides early stage startups access to practical support, mentorship, and early stage capital.

I was so happy to work with one of the best investors in town Arjun Malhotra and Rohan Malhotra . I still remember when I went for the interview Arjun was shocked to know that I was willing to intern at the age of 18!

As, you know being from a small town how difficult it is to open up and talk to strangers. Though this internship was not something that would interest me but the urge to learn and work hard kept me going.

Their team was so helpful and encouraging even though I started interning with them when I was 18 years old they never hesitated in teaching me anything.

Learning’s :-

  • Learned how the startup world works
  • Introduced to new tools like Canva, Slack and Mailchimp

News meme (Voice Over Artist)

NewsMeme is the best way to stay updated with what’s happening in the world and where via byte sized, crisp news videos you get know about your favorite topics.

This was again a wonderful experience, it was a work from home internship and I got to work with one of the best hackers in Delhi Saurav Tomar (The founder of Newsmeme). I had to record scripts for the news videos.

Learning’s :-

  • Improved my communication skills

Shopwati ( Client Servicing Executive )

Shopwati is about sharing fashion, what looks good, what’s trending & where to find it.

Finally, the third internship was of my choice. It was all about fashion, style and glamour. It all started from a Facebook group, they had 30,ooo members at that time. I had to handle the working of the group.

The founders were amazing and super helpful ( Ankit Bajaj & Mehak Suri )

I was responsible for on-boarding of designers, online sales and networking. This internship was a dream, I got to attend the best of fashion exhibitions and shows like Amazon Fashion Week.

  • Got a deep insight of fashion world
  • Learned how to do sales
  • Interacted with the best of designers

Soul Sixteen (Stylist)

Soul Sixteen is on a mission to bring the latest and trendiest fashion at the most affordable prices to all cities in India.

I always wanted to do styling, this internship gave me an opportunity to do the same. I had to first shop from local markets like Sarojni Nagar and then style them.

The founder Rahul Gupta was the sweetest boss one could ever have.

  • Got to understand the latest trends
  • Improved my styling skills
  • Got to know how professional shoots happen

Indian Artizans:- ( Marketing Intern)

Indian Artizans showcases the handcrafted stories of India to the world through a unique selection of handcrafted & handpicked ethnic wear.

This internship helped me in understanding how the back end of an online shopping portal works and how do you market your products. Here, also I was responsible for on-boarding of designers on the website.

Manoj Attri and Souniya Khurana were the most encouraging people I have ever come across.

Also, I visited markets like Chandni Chowk and Dastakari Bazar, this made me understand how the local markets work.

  • Improved my marketing skills
  • Helped me understand the working of an online portal

Hellomeets ( Marketing and Research )

I am currently working with HelloMeets, it is a community that brings like minded people together through offline events.

I am working as a marketing intern, its been one month the over all experience has been awesome.

  • Deep insight of social media marketing
  • Learned how to blog
  • How to deal with customers
  • Learning how to do research on a new market for our launch. Now that’s a secret ;)

So, these were some of the learning’s of my two years of college, hope to learn a lot more in the coming years. S0 my friends, now you know why to choose startups for your internship.
